Slaggert concluded his college career at the University of Notre Dame, achieving a personal best of 20 goals and 31 points with the Fighting Irish before making his NHL debut last season. The 22-year-old wrapped up his time in college with a total of 47 goals and 92 points in 136 games and served as an alternate captain for the last two years.
Hailing from South Bend, Indiana, he was nominated for the Hobey Baker Award in the 2023-24 season, recognizing him as one of the NCAA’s best men’s hockey players.
Slaggert, a winger, was selected 79th overall in the 2020 NHL Draft after spending two years with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program from 2018 to 2020. He also participated in two World Junior Championships, earning a gold medal in 2021.
His younger brother, Carter, recently completed his freshman season at Notre Dame, while their older brother, Graham, is currently in his second season with the Rochester team in the AHL after finishing his four-year tenure with the Fighting Irish in 2022.
As an energetic forward, Slaggert is suited for a bottom-six role and excels at creating space around the net. Although he may not be a major offensive contributor in the NHL, his strong work ethic should help him maintain a position in the league, at least in the near future. He is currently playing for the Rockford Ice Hogs, the AHL affiliate of the Blackhawks.
