Prior to last night, Taylor Hall’s last goal in the NHL was on November 5, 2023, against the New Jersey Devils. Just weeks shy of the one-year mark, Hall scored an important goal during the Chicago Blackhawks’ home opener against the San Jose Sharks on Thursday.
Early in the match, while the teams played four-on-four, Hall put the Blackhawks on the scoreboard with a well-executed pass from TJ Brodie. Overall, the Blackhawks performed well, featuring contributions from various players throughout the game. With a red carpet welcome for the players, the 2024 Home Opener was energized by Hall’s goal, which gave Chicago an early 1-0 lead that they maintained through the night.
“He embodies the essence of the game,” said Bedard. “He clearly missed playing. It’s exciting to see how much enthusiasm he has returning, along with the dedication he shows every day. Last year he kept a positive attitude and supported the entire team. Watching him come back looking strong and scoring tonight was great.”
Hall recorded three shots on goal in just over 13 minutes of play. He has been an important part of a capable second line alongside Philipp Kurashev and Tyler Bertuzzi.
Currently in a contract year, this season is crucial for Hall in determining his future, whether with Chicago or elsewhere. His scoring and offensive contribution are significant advantages for the team, akin to a new summer acquisition.
Blackhawks head coach Luke Richardson noted that Hall’s influence on the team goes beyond just scoring goals. He commended Hall’s ability to effectively dump the puck before changing lines early in the third period: “Taylor Hall redirected the puck at the blue line as he was changing, allowing Anderson to initiate the forecheck.”
This moment was subtle on the replay, but Hall effectively moved the puck deep, which Anderson pursued before assisting Jason Dickinson in front of the net.
Following his first goal of the season, Hall’s celebration reflected his enthusiasm, something Richardson remarked on after the game. “He had a fantastic game,” Richardson said. “He’s clearly showing signs of returning. His hard work and fitness level are impressive.”
The Blackhawks need Hall to maintain his strong performance throughout the season. A healthy and effective Taylor Hall could become a valuable trade asset at the deadline, but first, it’s crucial to see how he performs on Saturday against the Buffalo Sabres.
