Through the first seven games of the 2024 season, the Buffalo Bills’ defense hasn’t been without its flaws; however, fourth-year defensive end Greg Rousseau has consistently delivered standout performances.
On Tuesday, NFL Next Gen Stats highlighted Rousseau’s impressive impact, showing that he has pressured opposing quarterbacks in under 2.5 seconds from the snap on 17 occasions, which ranks as the second-highest in the league. Only Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns has done it more, with 19 instances.
Despite reduced playing time for players like Von Miller, Rousseau is on track for a career year in terms of quarterback rushing. He currently ranks tied for fourth in the NFL with 13 quarterback hits. Over seven games, he also boasts 22 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and one forced fumble.
To put his season into perspective, Rousseau is projected to achieve 31.5 quarterback hits, significantly surpassing his previous career high of 18. He is also on pace for 8.5 sacks, which would eclipse his record of eight set in 2022.
The Bills recognize Rousseau’s value, as he has participated in 72% of defensive snaps, a figure that, if maintained, would mark a personal best for him. Previously, he hadn’t exceeded 60% in a season.
In the Bills’ 34-10 victory over the Tennessee Titans, Rousseau had one of his most impactful games, consistently pressuring Mason Rudolph. He recorded a game-high six quarterback hits, along with 11 pressures and half a sack. Notably, his six hits were the most by any defender in a single game this season.
As the Bills approach the midpoint of the regular season, they are looking forward to Rousseau continuing this level of performance, which could lead to his first Pro Bowl selection as a pass rusher.
