Since offensive coordinator Joe Brady took over play-calling mid-season in 2023, the Buffalo Bills have experienced a shift in their offensive identity, placing increased focus on the run game beyond quarterback Josh Allen. The team has enjoyed success on the ground during the first seven games, attributing this to a stronger offensive line, reliable performances from running back James Cook, and notably, the rise of fourth-round draft pick Ray Davis.
In his last two games, Davis has recorded 138 rushing yards, averaging 5.5 yards per carry, along with an additional 61 receiving yards from four catches, including a 42-yard reception during a scramble in Week 6. He scored his second touchdown of the season in the Bills’ 34-10 victory over the Tennessee Titans, garnering attention not only from local fans but also from national media. Davis recently appeared on NFL Network’s Good Morning Football, sharing his NFL journey; once homeless, he now aims to be a role model for other children facing similar hardships.
“For me, it was about recognizing that everyone faces challenges and adversity, and I realized that if I gave up, who would advocate for kids like me?” Davis reflected. “I wanted to be that spokesman, mentor, and role model. From a young age of 12 and onward, I knew I had to lead by example and show that achieving your dreams is possible.”
He emphasized that while the journey may be tough and filled with obstacles, persistence pays off. “I kept pushing through every challenge, understanding I couldn’t run away from adversity. If I had, I wouldn’t have the platform I do today to encourage others that no matter what anyone tells you, if you believe in yourself, you can achieve anything.”
Davis’s story offers hope to those in need, as he aims to illuminate the path toward success. He also expressed gratitude for the loyal Buffalo fans, acknowledging their energy during the team’s Week 7 victory.
“We have the best fanbase in the world, not just one of the best,” the rookie praised Bills fans. “Bills Mafia is amazing. They love seeing our talented players, and their support has been incredible.”
There was certainly a strong atmosphere at Orchard Park last Sunday, as the Bills returned home after nearly a month, having last played at Highmark Stadium on September 23rd when they overwhelmed the Jacksonville Jaguars 47-10. The Bills are currently undefeated at home this season, averaging 38 points per game during these matchups, indicating that the passion of their fans is crucial to their success. Davis will next have a chance to showcase his skills in front of the Buffalo crowd when the Bills take on the Miami Dolphins on November 3rd.
