Injuries to key players have been a recurring issue for the Buffalo Bills, and just when it seemed they were overcoming these setbacks, last weekend brought another challenge with star middle linebacker Terrel Bernard suffering an ankle injury after being on the field multiple times. He had previously missed two games earlier this season.
Ahead of Wednesday’s practice, as the Bills prepare to head out west for a game against the Seattle Seahawks, head coach Sean McDermott spoke to the media and gave an optimistic update on Bernard’s status. McDermott mentioned, “He’s excused today for personal reasons, but he is also dealing with the injury still, so he won’t be here today.” He then clarified that Bernard is considered day-to-day.
This classification of day-to-day, rather than week-to-week, is significant. With two practices remaining before an official decision for Sunday’s game, it appears Bernard has a solid chance of playing.
His availability would be critical. Bernard’s fellow linebacker, Dorian Williams, seems to be fully participating in Wednesday’s practice, which bodes well for the linebacker corps ahead of their game against Seattle.
Although Seattle has a 4-3 record, they can be a formidable opponent for Buffalo. The Bills have struggled against the run, and Seattle possesses a strong running back duo in Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet, who can challenge defenses with their size, physicality, and ability to break tackles. Having both Bernard and Williams fit and ready will be crucial for the defense in stopping this talented pair.
