Prior to Monday’s matchup with the Colorado Avalanche, the Chicago Blackhawks assigned goalie Drew Commesso to the AHL’s Rockford IceHogs. This decision was made possible by Arvid Soderblom’s return to the team following his recovery from an illness. Soderblom’s health issue surfaced before Friday’s game against the Nashville Predators, leading the Blackhawks to call Commesso up from Rockford. Commesso acted as Petr Mrazek’s backup during the games against the Predators and the Dallas Stars, although he did not play. Soderblom, who didn’t travel to Dallas, will be on the Blackhawks’ bench Monday as Mrazek’s backup against the Avalanche. He has a record of 0-1-1, with a .911 save percentage and a 2.52 goals-against average in two games this season.
Commesso will need to wait for his NHL debut as he heads back to Rockford, where he holds a record of 1-1-0, a .854 save percentage, and a 3.52 goals-against average from two AHL games this season.
The Blackhawks continue their five-game road trip on Monday against the Avalanche, with the game set to start at 8 p.m. CT and broadcast on Chicago Sports Network (CHSN).
