Connor Bedard experienced one of the most notable rookie seasons in the NHL since Connor McDavid’s debut in 2015-16. In a discussion on the Frankly Speaking podcast with Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli, Bedard talked about the challenges he faced transitioning from the WHL’s Regina Pats to the Chicago Blackhawks and how he believed he handled those challenges.
Frank Seravalli asked Bedard about the adjustments he had to make over the course of the last season, prompting Bedard to share that a major aspect was developing a routine outside of games. He emphasized the importance of maintaining a regimen to feel good while playing frequently. On the ice, he noted the need to learn when to make plays and how to adapt his skills coming from junior hockey to the NHL.
Seravalli then inquired about any secrets or strategies Bedard discovered regarding his adjustment to an 82-game season. Bedard replied that he focused on weightlifting more than he had in junior, where workouts were less frequent. He mentioned that just 20 minutes of lifting could help sustain his strength as the season progressed.
Seravalli further questioned Bedard about his approach to nutrition and rest. Bedard conveyed that he has always maintained a healthy diet, but emphasized the importance of taking care of his body and ensuring adequate sleep, especially with the demanding travel schedule. He remarked how crucial off days became as the season wore on, highlighting the need to rest whenever possible.
