Former Buffalo Bills safety Mike Edwards is on the verge of joining the Tennessee Titans, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. The 28-year-old was released by the Bills on Tuesday after they failed to trade him before the 4:00 p.m. deadline. Edwards, a former third-round draft pick who has won Super Bowls with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs, signed a one-year contract with Buffalo in March when the team made changes to its defensive backfield. With veteran safeties Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer departing in the spring, the Bills brought in Edwards for added experience.
However, injuries in the spring and summer hindered his ability to impress the coaching staff, leading him to become the team’s fourth-string safety behind Taylor Rapp, Damar Hamlin, and rookie Cole Bishop. During his brief time with the Bills, he spent much of the season inactive, appearing in only nine games and playing just seven defensive snaps. Fowler reported in late October that both Edwards and the Bills were considering a change, culminating in his release on Tuesday.
Now, with the Titans likely seeking his services, Edwards may finally find the playing time he desires, especially after the team released former All-Pro safety Jamal Adams in mid-October.
