After his time with the Dallas Cowboys, Jordan Phillips had several options but chose to return to the Buffalo Bills for a specific reason. He feels a strong connection with the team that goes beyond just matching his playing style with their defensive strategies.
“I’m definitely an acquired taste, and they appreciate that here,” Phillips said when asked why he decided to rejoin Buffalo. The familiarity he has with the team and its culture made his decision easy, unlike many players who often spend a lot of time considering their next move after leaving a team.
“I had some options, but my intention was to come back here,” said Jefferson in an interview with WKBW’s Matthew Bove. “I know everyone, there’s a winning culture, and they understand my abilities, so it just felt like a perfect match.”
Phillips has previously been part of the Bills on two occasions, most recently during the 2022-23 seasons, where he recorded 35 tackles, four sacks, and 11 quarterback hits over 26 games.
His return to the 53-man roster coincides with the Bills signing another former player, defensive tackle Quinton Jefferson, with both on one-year contracts.
The Cowboys cut Phillips following the NFL Trade Deadline on Tuesday. Although he played in the first two games of the 2024 season, he was placed on injured reserve due to a wrist injury on September 18. Although he was eligible to return on October 23, the Cowboys did not activate him for Weeks 8 or 9.
Phillips is now hopeful for renewed success in Buffalo.
