The New York Rangers may finally be able to reach an agreement to send their captain to another team after their unsuccessful attempt to trade Jacob Trouba last summer.
One of the main figures in the offseason trade rumours was Trouba. At thirty years old and after five seasons with the Rangers, it appeared that Trouba would be leaving the team.
Trouba stayed with the team going into the 2024–25 NHL season, but general manager Chris Drury found things difficult because of his 15-team no-trade list.
With two seasons remaining on his seven-year, $8 million AAV contract, Trouba is not guaranteed to stay with the Rangers. A recent source claims that Trouba’s team is aware that the group will consider to trade him this summer either way
Arthur Staples wrote this for The Athletic. Even the Rangers’ attempt to trade him last summer was deemed “ill-advised” by him.
To use his own words:
“The brief, futile attempt to get him to waive his no-trade clause and leave this past offseason was a bit ill-advised, but Trouba and his camp seem to understand that this is going to happen next summer with or without their input.”
Trouba, who brought his typical tenacity to 12 games with the Blueshirts this season, scored five points. Although he is expected to contribute significantly to the team this season, all signs lead to his joining a different squad in the summer.
Before the new year, the Rangers need to sign a number of important free agents, including Igor ,Kaapo Kakko, K’Andre Miller, and Igor Shesterkin. Drury will have to make difficult decisions to open up cap space if he hopes to sign them all.
