A surprising move has taken place on NHL waivers as Dante Fabbro, previously linked to trade talks with the Montreal Canadiens, has been placed on waivers by the Nashville Predators. Barry Trotz made the significant decision to put Fabbro on waivers. The Montreal Canadiens, facing a shortage of defensemen on the right side, may consider claiming Fabbro, a former first-round pick (17th overall in 2016) and a product of Boston University in the NCAA.
The 17th overall choice in the 2016 Draft may be the player who ultimately forces Jeff Gorton and Kent Hughes to use waivers to add depth to the roster, according to a number of analysts.
For a few days now, there has been a rumour that the Canadiens want to try to upgrade their squad. The Habs now have two left-handed defenseman on the right side: Jayden Struble and Kaiden Guhle.

Right-handed defenseman Fabbro, 26, has a contract that expires this summer and makes $2.5 million annually. He hasn’t scored any points in six games this season.
He is available for claim by Kent Hughes and the other NHL teams tomorrow at 2:00 PM. He will clear waivers and be available for assignment to the AHL’s Milwaukee Admirals if he is not claimed.
