There’s some activity on the NHL waiver wire that may intrigue fans of the Montreal Canadiens. Today, three players have been placed on waivers, including a goaltender who could pique the interest of Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton, particularly following today’s match.
“The Canadiens only allowed the Sabres ONE high-danger scoring chance today, which is impressive. Unfortunately, Cayden Primeau gave up 5 goals, which is far from impressive.” – A. Martineau
The players placed on waivers are Andreas Athanasiou, Matt Benning, and Kaapo Kahkonen. The one who seems most appealing to Kent Hughes and the Canadiens is undoubtedly Kahkonen.
“While he wouldn’t be a game-changer, I would claim Kaapo Kahkonen off waivers and send Cayden Primeau down to Laval for a reality check. The Canadiens have nothing to lose.” – This might signal the end of Primeau’s time with the team.
Kaapo Kahkonen, 28, stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 217 pounds. Over his NHL career, he has played 140 games, achieving a save percentage nearing 0.900 with a record of 49-68-15.
Matt Benning, 30, has recorded 102 points in 464 NHL games, playing as a right-handed defenseman recently acquired by the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Andreas Athanasiou, also 30, is a fast forward with 245 points in 492 career NHL games, but he has yet to score in five games this season with the Chicago Blackhawks.
This is certainly a situation to monitor closely tomorrow afternoon!
