The Big Blue Nation is still relishing their impressive victory over Duke on Tuesday night, but Kentucky Wildcats fans have more to be excited about on Wednesday as two UK recruits officially signed their National Letters of Intent.
As the college basketball early signing period is in full swing, Mark Pope and his coaching team have secured commitments from Kentucky natives Jasper Johnson and Malachi Moreno.
Johnson signed his NLI during an OTE signing day event in Atlanta, while Moreno did so at Great Crossing.
UK announced Moreno’s signing along with remarks from Coach Pope.
“I truly believe that Malachi Moreno is the top center in this recruiting class,” Pope stated in a press release. “He is an exceptional passer with remarkable court vision. He shows tenacity near the basket regarding ball protection and is not afraid to engage physically. He is bound to develop into an elite shooter. More importantly, he gets emotional when he steps into Rupp Arena because he understands the significance of this place.”
Growing up in Kentucky, I always dreamed of wearing that Kentucky uniform,” Moreno expressed in a press release. “Being able to wear ‘Kentucky’ on my chest means everything to me.”
Coach Pope and his staff have had notable success in recruiting during their initial months in charge. They are now focused on securing a commitment and signing from 5-star forward Caleb Wilson.
It’s also reasonable to assume that 4-star point guard commit Acaden Lewis will sign during this early period, potentially giving the Wildcats three signings to start off the 2025 class.
Welcome to the BBN, Jasper and Malachi!
