Montreal Canadiens forward Cole Caufield is scoring at an impressive rate this season. In his first 16 games, he has netted 12 goals, projecting a potential total of 60 for the season, which would far exceed his previous career high of 28. His shooting percentage is remarkable, hitting an impressive efficiency of 29.3%.
Despite the Canadiens’ struggles with a 5-9-2 record in those 16 games, Caufield’s performance remains a bright spot for the team. Yaremchuk and Frank Seravalli discussed Caufield’s strong start and speculated on how many goals he might score this season.
Yaremchuk: Let’s talk about Cole Caufield. At the beginning of the year, we wondered if he had the potential for 50 goals, and he’s now on track for 60. Frank, I truly believe he can reach that; it doesn’t feel like a fluke. On a scale of 1 to 10, what do you think?
Seravalli: I’d give it a 7. I’m a big fan of Caufield; he’s a special player having a great season. He even mentioned needing to shoot more, which I think is fantastic for a goal scorer. However, looking at his last three seasons with totals of 28, 26, and 23 goals, considering he played 82 games last year for just 28 goals, reaching 45 would be a significant achievement this year. I doubt he’ll hit 60.
Yaremchuk: Among players like Caufield, (Mikko) Rantanen, (William) Nylander, (Leon) Draisaitl, and (Sam) Reinhart, all with 12 goals, who do you think has the best chance of maintaining that pace?
Seravalli: I’d likely bet on Draisaitl or Rantanen.
