Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton have been actively engaged in the trade market lately, and here’s an interesting update.
In a recent interview on the popular Tony Marinaro podcast, prominent hockey analyst Pierre McGuire revealed some intriguing information.
It appears that a few years ago, the Montreal Canadiens put forward Joel Armia as part of a proposed trade with the Ottawa Senators that involved multiple players.
Tony just brought this compelling detail back up on BPM Sports moments ago, stating, “He mentioned that he was included in a larger trade involving several components. While he wouldn’t disclose the names of the other players, it’s clear that the deal fell through. Less than three years ago, the Gorton-Hughes team offered Joel Armia to the Senators in a multi-player exchange, but Ottawa declined.”

The trade proposal, which consisted of several parts, was ultimately turned down by Ottawa. This offer came from the management team of Hughes and Gorton.
Will Armia be traded by the Canadiens this season? We’ll have to wait and see.
Now at 31 years old, Armia stands at 6 feet 3 inches and weighs 216 pounds. Drafted in the first round by the Buffalo Sabres in 2011, he has recorded six points in 17 games this season, including two goals. Last season, he finished with 25 points over 66 games, with 17 of those being goals.
As his contract approaches its end, this situation definitely deserves attention.
