Recently, there has been talk about placing goaltender Cayden Primeau on NHL waivers within the Montreal Canadiens organization. However, Kent Hughes is likely against this idea, especially given his focus on resource management—particularly since he turned down a trade for Primeau last year in favor of trading Allen.
In light of this, and considering the potential benefits of seeing Jakub Dobes compete in the NHL, Renaud Lavoie proposed that bringing up Dobes for a few games could serve as a subtle message to both Canadiens goalies.
Why not simply recall Dobes and reintroduce the successful three-goalie system that previously helped Cayden Primeau perform at his best? This wouldn’t necessitate Kent Hughes keeping Dobes in the NHL for the entire season.
Why not experiment for about ten games? The plan could involve six starts for Samuel, two for Dobes, and two for Primeau. Could the Canadiens revive the three-goalie system?
Charles-Alexis Brisebois makes some important observations:
I find it hard to believe that Kent Hughes, who dislikes losing players to waivers, would hold onto Allen for months only to later place Primeau on waivers. That seems illogical, even with Primeau’s recent struggles. Considering the Canadiens have previously overlooked two goalies on waivers, it may be time to focus solely on the four realistic options.

These four options are Samuel Montembeault, Cayden Primeau, Jakub Dobes, and Connor Hughes.
It’s worth noting that Montembeault excelled under the pressure of the three-goalie system last year, a situation that also benefited Primeau. Why not call up Dobes (or even Hughes) and see how it goes? What are your thoughts on this idea?
