In a dominant performance last Saturday, the Georgia Bulldogs’ defense excelled against the 7th-ranked Tennessee Volunteers, shutting them out in the second half. However, head coach Kirby Smart believed that the defense could improve its tackling skills and sought assistance from a “tackling expert.”
The Bulldogs’ social media team shared a clip of Smart discussing his commitment to enhancing the team’s tackling abilities, emphasizing that he would do “whatever it takes” to achieve this goal. As part of this initiative, he announced that he would be enlisting a “tackling expert.”
The expert identified was Brett Thorson, the Bulldogs’ punter, who had recently executed a touchdown-saving tackle during the game against the Volunteers. He proceeded to analyze game footage of his tackles and provided guidance to fellow players on how they could emulate his technique. While Thorson’s tackling skills proved valuable on game day, Coach Smart likely prefers that the primary tackling responsibilities rest with the defensive players.
