Jaxson Robinson has attended four different schools over the past five years, and his latest move has brought him to the most skilled team of his college basketball experience. Just four games into his time at Kentucky, Robinson delivered his best performance yet as a Wildcat.
In just 22 minutes of action, Robinson scored 20 points as Kentucky improved to 4-0 with a 97-68 victory over Lipscomb. In the prior game against Duke, he did not score and had an unsuccessful shooting night of 0/4. However, Robinson rebounded against Lipscomb, shooting 6/10 overall and hitting 3/6 from three-point range.
During the postgame press conference, Robinson discussed the unselfish nature of the team, emphasizing how this quality makes the Wildcats unique.
“It doesn’t always mean you have to be the leading scorer,” Robinson remarked (via Lexington Herald-Leader). “You may not receive all the attention or be featured on social media, but that’s what distinguishes this team. What makes us Kentucky is our belief that it doesn’t matter who stands out as long as we work together. Our goal is to win a championship.”
Mark Pope, Kentucky’s head basketball coach, is well-acquainted with Robinson, having coached him for three seasons prior at BYU before their move to Kentucky.
Following Robinson’s standout game against Lipscomb, Pope commended the fifth-year senior for his leadership and development as a player.
“Witnessing his progress has been truly inspiring,” Pope expressed. “I’m not sure how many players we’ll coach for three years again, but it’s been incredible to coach him for two years and four games. It’s been a pleasure, and I’m very proud of him.”
In a competitive SEC landscape, Robinson and the Wildcats are currently ranked No. 10 in the latest AP Top 25 poll, with Kentucky being one of four SEC teams in the top 10.
