The Georgia Bulldogs have secured their spot in the SEC Championship game after a wild Saturday in college football marked by several upsets.
Their opponent is yet to be determined, hinging on the outcome of the Texas vs. Texas A&M game next Saturday.
This will be Georgia’s fourth consecutive appearance and their 12th overall in the conference championship.
A victory would grant Georgia a first-round bye in the playoffs, but a loss could complicate their situation and possibly eliminate them from playoff contention.
For now, head coach Kirby Smart is focused on ensuring the Bulldogs finish their regular season strong by defeating Georgia Tech next Friday in their traditional rivalry, known as “Clean Old, Fashioned Hate.”
“Right now, my concern is Georgia Tech,” Smart said after Georgia’s win over UMass. “That’s all I’m focused on; my priority is preparing my team for Georgia Tech in six days.”
Georgia faces a quicker turnaround this week, needing to swiftly move past the UMass game and concentrate on the Yellow Jackets.
A win against Georgia Tech is crucial for the Bulldogs to solidify their standing with the College Football Playoff Committee, regardless of the SEC Championship game result.
“Every game matters, especially this one,” Smart noted. “It’s a massive rivalry game at the end of the season, representing the state, our program, and our conference.”
The rivalry matchup will take place at 7:30 p.m. ET on Nov. 29, as Smart and the Bulldogs seek to extend their current six-game winning streak and their historical advantage against the Yellow Jackets, which stands at 71-41-5.
