The Canadiens are in need of on-ice assistance, and it’s widely recognized.
In contrast, Kent Hughes is actively seeking a right-handed defenseman to strengthen the team’s defensive elite both now and in the future.
Additionally, the upcoming draft will bring in promising talent. Within the organization, there are multiple players not currently competing in Montreal who show significant potential and are part of the team’s future plans.
Who are these players?
Jeff Gorton, the team’s VP, took the opportunity during a Prime TV broadcast of the Canadiens game to discuss these prospects who are expected to contribute down the road.
He identified five players: Ivan Demidov, Michael Hage, David Reinbacher, Logan Mailloux, and Jacob Fowler. It’s no surprise to see Demidov mentioned; he highlighted all of the Canadiens’ non-NHL first-round draft picks, with the exception of Filip Mesar. This omission isn’t solely due to Mesar’s injury, as Reinbacher’s injury is more serious, yet Mesar has just resumed skating. Likewise, it’s expected to see Jacob Fowler on the list; he is performing exceptionally well, and the Canadiens could use a future goalie.
It’s worth noting that some players, such as Joshua Roy, Owen Beck, and Adam Engstrom, were not mentioned. This absence doesn’t imply they are lacking in talent, but it is significant that they weren’t acknowledged by the VP.
