Patrik Laine, a forward for the Montreal Canadiens, has quickly become a fan favorite since being acquired by Kent Hughes from the Blue Jackets a few months ago, marking one of Hughes’ finest decisions.
There’s a strong desire among fans to keep Laine with the team long-term, especially given that his contract will expire in under two years, after which he will become a free agent. Fortunately, Laine has made his intentions clear.
In a recent Finnish interview with Yle Sports, Laine expressed his commitment and desire to play in Montreal, stating, “If I had to choose a place where I could play, this would probably be it. I’ve never been so excited as when I heard I was coming here to Montreal. This is such a mecca for hockey.”
It’s evident that Kent Hughes will have a great opportunity to discuss a contract extension with him, and fans are hopeful that this will happen.
Starting July 1st, we can anticipate news regarding Laine’s potential contract extension. After all, he’s still just 26!
This season, Laine has recorded 4 points in 4 games, including three goals, energizing Martin St-Louis’ team since his return.
Montreal loves Laine, and Laine loves Montreal!
