Following his team’s dismal performance against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday night, Montreal Canadiens head coach Martin St-Louis took action today. He conducted a regular practice session, though it was evident that he was feeling tense, which is understandable given the circumstances.
As noted by the insightful Marc-Olivier Cook, Martin had to frequently halt drills to “get in his players’ ears.” For instance, this wasn’t the first time he paused practice to communicate with his team this morning, and it’s clear that the coach is not pleased with their efforts.
Although some criticized Martin St-Louis for appearing emotionless during the post-game press conference, his feelings were more apparent in practice today.
Martin St-Louis Takes Action Rather than Talk
It’s becoming evident that MSL is not one to create a spectacle in front of media or raise his voice at press conferences. Rather, he prefers to take proactive measures the following day to tackle the issues head-on.
It’s regrettable, considering that prior to Thursday’s debacle at the Bell Centre, the atmosphere surrounding the Montreal Canadiens was quite positive, and it seemed the team was progressing well.
However, in just one game, everything shifted dramatically. The unexpected absence of David Savard appeared to have a noticeable effect; some even suggested that a potential trade for the Canadiens may have been impacted by last night’s game against Pittsburgh.
Regardless, we’re keen to see how Martin St-Louis’ team reacts in their upcoming match against the Jets, but it certainly needs to be an improvement from what we witnessed on Thursday at the Bell Centre.
