LeBron James recently reflected on his past rivalry with the Golden State Warriors.
In an interview that was broadcasted on Tuesday, James participated in a “NBA Today” Christmas special alongside Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant. He notably led the Cleveland Cavaliers to four consecutive NBA Finals against Curry’s Warriors between 2015 and 2018, with Durant joining Golden State for the final two years.
During the discussion, LeBron compared the four-year confrontation between the Warriors and the Cavaliers to an old-school rap feud.
“Those four straight years of Cleveland versus Golden State felt like an east coast vs. west coast battle,” James remarked. “It was akin to a rap beef, where Golden State represented the west and the Cavs represented the east.”
Few would dispute James’ perspective, as those Warriors-Cavs clashes captivated audiences much like the recent rap rivalry between Kendrick Lamar and Drake did.
The 2016 seven-game duel between the Warriors and Cavaliers is considered one of the greatest series in NBA Finals history.
With the current state of the NBA exhibiting parity, it could take years, or even decades, before we witness a rivalry that reaches the same level of intensity as the Warriors-Cavaliers rivalry in the 2010s.
