Kentucky basketball is gearing up for the start of SEC play this Saturday against No. 6 Florida. Unfortunately, the Wildcats will still be without backup guard Kerr Kriisa, who has been out since their game against Gonzaga on December 7. Although he is unable to play, Kriisa continues to inspire his team from the sidelines.
Mark Pope provided an update on Kriisa’s recovery from ankle surgery during a press conference on Thursday, indicating that his return will take some time. While Kriisa is actively supporting his teammates from the bench, Pope noted that his competitive spirit makes him eager to return to the court.
“I see him as a game-time decision for Saturday, but I know I’m being overly optimistic. This is a significant situation, so it will take time. He loves to compete, and right now, his life feels off without that. He’s trying to engage with the team in other ways, and this will be a valuable growth opportunity for him. We need to view this as a chance for him to learn and adapt. He’s surrounded by supportive teammates, and he’ll manage to do it,” explained Pope regarding Kriisa’s injury.
With Kriisa unavailable for almost a month, it’s clear how much he longs to return to the court and make an impact in games. His teammates recognize his ability to influence the game, and Pope referred to him as a crucial player for the team. The Wildcats are eager to have him back as they enter SEC competition.
