One statistic highlights the decline of the entire Golden State Warriors roster this season.
Winning the 2022 NBA Championship effectively muted their critics. However, since that remarkable season, the Warriors have steadily worsened, following up by missing the playoffs last year.
The goal for this season was to address their shortcomings, yet instead, the Warriors appear to have regressed.
Every player on the Warriors is grappling with the same problem. During their peak years, few teams could match their shooting prowess, which made them a formidable franchise.
According to Peter O’Keefe of Blue Man Hoop, all players on the roster are shooting worse than they did last season, based on data from the first 32 games. It’s surprising that not a single player, not even Stephen Curry, has improved his field goal percentage in the 2024-25 NBA season.
Curry’s shooting has declined from 45% to 43.7%, while Jonathan Kuminga has seen his percentage drop from 52.9% to 44.8%. This statistic is a significant reason the Warriors have struggled in the Western Conference this season.
Steve Kerr, take note.
The Warriors squandered a strong start to the season. Though they lost Klay Thompson in the offseason, the team seemed unaffected by his departure at least for the first 15 games.
The 2022 NBA champions began the season with an impressive 12-3 record, but since then, their performance has sharply declined. Many believed that trading for Dennis Schroder would rejuvenate their championship ambitions, but he has yet to find his rhythm in a Warriors uniform.
They did achieve a convincing 139-105 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers, pushing their season record to 17-16. Whether they can build on this momentum remains to be seen.
