An NHL insider has shared insights on where New York Rangers enforcer Matt Rempe will be playing after his eight-game suspension comes to an end.
On December 20th, during a game against the Dallas Stars, Rempe, a young player for the Rangers, executed a risky hit on defenseman Miro Heiskanen, charging at him and slamming him into the boards. This incident led to a game misconduct penalty for Rempe and a hearing with the NHL’s Department of Player Safety.
On Thursday, Rempe may be eligible to return to the Rangers lineup as they prepare to face the New Jersey Devils. However, it’s currently uncertain whether he will rejoin the NHL, as noted by journalist Emily Kaplan. She mentioned that the Rangers are pleased with his development and believe he deserves another chance in the NHL, potentially in the spring: “The good news is the Rangers love him. […] They appreciate his growth, attitude, and work ethic. As long as he has learned from this experience, I anticipate he will get another opportunity with the Rangers this spring.”
In his 22 career games, Rempe has recorded two points, including one goal, while accumulating 95 penalty minutes, all while averaging less than six minutes of ice time per game.
