In their recent matchup, the Vegas Golden Knights experienced a déjà vu moment, believing they had scored right as the buzzer rang during their 2-1 defeat against the New York Rangers at T-Mobile Arena on Thursday. This marked the second time this homestand that they lost by a goal where a shot found the net after time expired.
Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy expressed frustration, stating, “This is the second time we’ve lost a game by a goal where our shot came just one-tenth of a second late. We really needed just one more second, so it feels like there’s some bad luck with our puck fortunes right now. Things are not going our way, and we’re not getting many lucky breaks or easy goals.”
Cassidy emphasized the notion of “puck luck,” which is understandable given that players like Alexander Holtz and Jack Eichel each hit a post during the game. Furthermore, the goals scored by the Rangers were not due to a significant defensive lapse by the Golden Knights.
One of the goals came from Rangers forward Vincent Trocheck, who redirected a slapshot that landed on his stick and went into an open net. The winning goal was scored by New York forward Adam Edstrom, who deflected a point shot past Ilya Samsonov.
“We conceded two goals tonight. Usually, at home, that would be sufficient for us—most of the time it is,” Cassidy noted. “It’s probably worked in our favor 95% of the season; it just wasn’t the case tonight.”
