The NCAA men’s hockey season continued last weekend, featuring seven New York Rangers prospects competing for their college teams.
Gabe Perreault and Drew Fortescue returned to Boston College following their team’s gold medal win at the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship, marking the first time the U.S. has secured back-to-back titles. The Rangers prospects were instrumental in the victories, with Perreault contributing 10 points (three goals and seven assists) and Fortescue serving as a top defensive player. However, Boston College suffered a setback against Merrimack College, losing their home opener of the weekend series 5-2 after initially leading 2-0, with Fortescue unable to play in that match. Perreault led his team with five shots on goal, but his four-game scoring streak came to an end.
On Saturday, Fortescue returned to the lineup, contributing a secondary assist as Boston College won 4-1. The defenseman recorded two shots on goal and finished with a plus-1 rating. Perreault notched a primary assist on BC’s fourth goal and continues to lead the team with 17 assists and 24 points, finishing the game with three shots on goal and another assist.
Brody Lamb, a fourth-round pick in 2021, went scoreless with one shot on goal as the Minnesota Golden Gophers lost 5-1 to Ohio State in their Big Ten match on Friday. He registered another shot on goal and received a minor penalty for slashing during a 6-1 victory in the rematch on Saturday. This season, Lamb has achieved 13 goals and seven assists, totaling 20 points in 23 games. The Gophers hold an overall record of 18-4-2 and will face Notre Dame next weekend.
In other action, Noah Laba’s two assists were not enough to prevent Colorado College from losing 5-2 to Omaha on Friday. Laba assisted on both of the Tigers’ goals while recording four shots on goal and a 10-5 face-off record. However, Colorado College lost again on Saturday, 3-1 to Omaha, with Laba unable to score, although he had four shots on goal and a 10-4 face-off record. Despite missing five games due to injury, Laba is tied for the team’s points lead with 14. The Tigers now have a record of 10-9-1 and are looking to rebound in their upcoming home series against Minnesota Duluth.
North Dakota played Arizona State in a weekend series, splitting the results. Defenseman EJ Emery had two shots on goal in a 4-1 loss on Friday and recorded one blocked shot in a narrow 4-3 win on Saturday, during which he received minor penalties for holding and slashing. The Fighting Hawks now hold a 12-8-1 record and will face Ty Henricks and the Western Michigan Broncos next.
Cornell achieved a 1-1 draw against Sacred Heart on Friday, with defenseman Hank Kempf making three shots on goal but finishing with a minus-1 rating. On Saturday, he recorded no shots and was a minus-2 in a 4-2 loss. Cornell’s record stands at 6-5-4, and they will play away against Princeton and Quinnipiac University this upcoming weekend.
In ECAC action, Zakary Karpa led Harvard to a 3-1 victory over Brown, winning 17 of 20 face-offs (85 percent) along with an assist and two shots on goal. He did not take any shots during a 3-1 win against Yale on Saturday, but recorded a 9-7 face-off record with a plus-1 rating. The Crimson improve to 5-7-2 and will face Boston College on Tuesday night.
Finally, the Northern Michigan Wildcats earned their first win since October 18, 2024, defeating Minnesota State 3-2. Freshman defenseman Rasmus Larsson blocked four shots in the game. He was credited with two shots and three blocked shots during a subsequent 6-1 loss on Saturday and faced minor penalties for tripping and hooking. The Wildcats now have a record of 2-19-1 and will take on Bemidji State next.
