The Los Angeles Dodgers won’t be able to re-sign all their players this offseason.
Despite their recent trend of making multiple acquisitions and investing heavily, it isn’t always possible to bring back a former fan-favorite, no matter how beloved they are.
Among Dodgers fans from 2014 to 2022, Justin Turner made a lasting impression. His strong performances, including consistently batting over .275, earning two All-Star selections, and his distinctive beard, created a unique connection with supporters, resulting in enthusiastic applause every time he stepped up to bat at Dodger Stadium.
Since Turner left after the 2022 season and played for teams like the Boston Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, and the Seattle Mariners, the atmosphere for Dodgers fans has shifted.
Although there’s a possibility he could return to the National League, it won’t be with the Dodgers due to their full roster.
The Chicago Cubs are reportedly considering the infielder, as shared by The Athletic’s Patrick Mooney and Ken Rosenthal, but their interest is contingent on free agent Alex Bregman’s decision.
At 40 years old, Turner might not be as strong defensively, yet he can still offer value as a designated hitter or first baseman for any Major League Baseball team.
Other potential teams interested in him include a possible return to the Red Sox or the Detroit Tigers. The situation is expected to clarify once Bregman makes his choice, leaving fans wondering where the Long Beach, CA native will end up.
According to sources, “Turner and his wife Kourtney, who’s from Indiana, are drawn to the idea of spending the summer in Chicago,” which could influence the two-time All-Star’s decision.
Turner finished the 2024 season with a batting average of .259, on-base percentage of .354, slugging percentage of .383, hitting 11 home runs, driving in 55 runs, and achieving 119 hits.
