Six years ago, a significant portion of Bills Mafia wanted the Buffalo Bills to select wide receiver DK Metcalf in the draft. Instead, the Bills picked the mediocre offensive lineman Cody Ford with their second-round, sixth pick, while Metcalf dropped to the Seattle Seahawks at the 64th overall spot. However, the Bills might soon have another opportunity to secure the dynamic receiving talent that could benefit NFL MVP quarterback Josh Allen.
Recently, reports have emerged that Metcalf, who is also looking for a new contract, has requested a trade from the Seahawks. As the Bills are in search of a game-changing wide receiver, speculation about Metcalf’s potential fit with the team immediately surfaced. CBS Sports writer Bryan DeArdo analyzed four veteran wide receivers likely nearing separation from their teams—Metcalf, Davante Adams, Christian Kirk, and Tyler Lockett—and proposed the best destinations for them. He matched Adams with the Green Bay Packers, Kirk with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and Lockett with the Las Vegas Raiders, while deeming Buffalo the top destination for Metcalf. The estimated cost for acquiring Metcalf is around a 2025 first-round pick and a three-year, $93 million contract extension.
DeArdo stated, “Metcalf wants to join a contender, and the Bills are in need of a receiver to help them overcome the Chiefs and other AFC teams. Like Adams and the Packers, Metcalf and the Bills seem like an ideal match. If this deal happens, the Bills could potentially rise above the Chiefs as the early frontrunners in the AFC. It’s hard to envision Metcalf catching balls from Josh Allen, the reigning MVP coming off a standout season. However, if everything aligns, Metcalf and Allen could recreate the historic partnership similar to that of Randy Moss and Tom Brady back in 2007.”
At 27 years old, Metcalf has achieved at least 900 receiving yards in each of his six NFL seasons and has made two Pro Bowl appearances, with 48 touchdown receptions in 97 games. He averages 14.4 yards per catch, in contrast to Bills receivers, who averaged 11.9 yards per reception in 2024.
