Following a mass exodus over the summer, the Pac-12 was left in a dire situation as the 2023 college football season approached. Colorado, Utah, Arizona, and Arizona State had all decided to leave for the Big 12 in 2024, while Oregon, Washington, UCLA, and USC joined the Big Ten, and Cal and Stanford moved to the ACC.
Only Washington State and Oregon State remained, marking the end of the once-great conference. However, as the season began, it became clear that the Pac-12 was arguably the deepest in the country, with a record eight teams ranked in the Associated Press Top 25 at one point. While the West Coast schools beat up on each other throughout the season, the Pac-12 still had the best winning percentage of any Power Five conference, according to Fox Sports analyst and former Washington quarterback Brock Huard. While other conferences may have had stronger top teams, Huard believes that the Pac-12 had the deepest lineup overall.
