Joel Matip has suffered a knee injury that is expected to keep him out of action for an extended period, according to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. Matip has been included in every matchday squad this season, but was forced off during the Fulham game after signalling for treatment. Klopp revealed that the injury would “not be a short one”. Matip’s absence leaves Liverpool with just four senior centre-back options, including Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Jarell Quansah. Klopp also confirmed a “knock” for Alexis Mac Allister, but expressed less concern over the player’s condition.
