It is not uncommon for NBA stars to request a trade when they believe their team has no chance of winning a championship. Both Giannis Antetokounmpo and LeBron James have made such demands in the past. However, it appears that Luka Doncic will not be joining that list.
Doncic recently reassured the Dallas Mavericks about his future with the team during an interview with Rachel Nichols. Despite the team’s failure to make the playoffs last season, Doncic stated that he was happy in Dallas and felt at home from day one. He also praised the team’s offseason moves.
Doncic has a guaranteed two-year contract with the Mavericks and a salary of $40 million. If he exercises his player option in the 2026-2027 season, he could receive close to $49 million.
Currently in his sixth year in the NBA, Doncic is having one of his best seasons yet. He recently scored 39 points, had six rebounds, and 13 assists in a game against the Timberwolves, extending his streak of games reaching 30 points to nine. The Mavericks are currently fourth in the Western Conference with a 15-9 record, but it is too early to talk about championship aspirations. Time will tell if the team’s offseason moves will help them make a push for the title, and if not, Doncic may reconsider his future with the team.
