After leading Memphis to four consecutive victories since returning from a 25-game suspension, Ja Morant of the Memphis Grizzlies sealed his team’s road victory over the New Orleans Pelicans with a dunk on Tuesday night at Smoothie King Center. While celebrating, he appeared to shoot imaginary bullets into the crowd, which caused controversy due to his suspension for flashing a firearm multiple times on social media and other violent incidents. Despite the speculation, it is unclear if Morant was simulating shooting a weapon or doing something else entirely different. Morant scored 31 points to beat the Pelicans 116-115 in overtime and was named Western Conference Player of the Week after averaging 28.8 points since his return. Although Morant is a problem on the court, his antics are what keep costing him. It’s possible the NBA fines him for the celebration. The Grizzlies visit the Denver Nuggets on Thursday night, and Morant will be under scrutiny.
