Ronnie O’Sullivan, the world number one, narrowly defeated Robert Milkins 6-5 in a tense final frame to advance to the quarter-finals of the MrQ UK Championship in York. Despite leading the head-to-head standings 9-0 against Milkins, O’Sullivan struggled with uncharacteristic missed shots and was close to being eliminated. The victory has secured O’Sullivan’s chances of retaining his position as world number one, as a loss would have allowed Judd Trump to take over. O’Sullivan’s win also marks his 140th ranking event quarter-final. He will face China’s Zhou Yuelong in the next round. Zhou defeated John Higgins 6-3 with impressive breaks to secure his spot in the quarters, marking his second time advancing to this stage in the UK Championship.
