At times this season, both Elias Pettersson of the Vancouver Canucks and William Nylander of the Toronto Maple Leafs have been the subject of trade speculation as they negotiate contract extensions. Recently, Matt Murley of Chiclets Game Notes podcast claimed to have heard rumors linking both players to the Chicago Blackhawks. Murley suggested that Pettersson may want to play with Connor Bedard in Chicago, while there was also talk of Nylander heading to the Windy City. However, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet’s 32 Thoughts podcast believes any talk of Pettersson leaving Vancouver is premature, and that the Canucks will offer him a big contract. The Blackhawks have the cap space to make a big move in next summer’s trade and free-agent markets, but their current plan is to rebuild with young talent like Bedard. Both Nylander and Pettersson have not expressed an intent to move on.
