After Martin Dubravka saved the first of his two penalties, the debate over whether Salah should be the Reds’ first-choice taker resurfaced. Salah did not improve matters when he missed a spot-kick against Tanzania in a friendly match. However, the ball bounced off the bar and into the goal via the goalkeeper’s backside, putting Egypt 2-0 up. Salah completed the full 90 minutes of the match and provided a brilliant first-time assist for Trezeguet. Later in the game, he played an unlikely role in the centre of midfield, showcasing his ball-playing abilities. Egypt is expected to top Group B and progress to at least the last 16, but Salah’s involvement in the group stage means he will miss three more games for Liverpool. If Egypt reaches the final, Salah is not expected back until the Brentford trip on February 17.
