Regarding the potential of the Steelers in 2024, I am cautiously hopeful yet disappointed, though not surprised. Mike Tomlin revealed two important things during his exit press conference: Kenny Pickett will return with outside competition, and they will consider previous OC experience for outside candidates. My initial takeaways are that Pressley Harvin won’t be back, Shane Waldron may be the next OC, and Pickett is likely to start Week 1. However, I hope the organization realizes Pickett is not the answer and brings in a new, legitimate quarterback. Tomlin’s language suggests a middling veteran quarterback will be brought in, but I hope for a big splash instead. My guess is Rudolph will sign elsewhere, and the Steelers will have Pickett, a middling vet, and a mid-round draft pick. I hope I’m wrong, but the lack of goodwill built up by the organization in the last two years makes it difficult to be hopeful.
